RAAF Williamtown Aviation Heritage Centre

RAAF Williamtown Aviation Heritage Centre is operated on behalf of the Royal Australian Air Force by Fighter World Inc., a not-for-profit organisation established in 1988. It preserves and displays the military-aviation history of the Hunter and New England region, including units and wartime locations linked to RAAF Williamtown, Rathmines, Tomaree, Ash Island, Swansea and Catherine Hill Bay. More than 15 aircraft are displayed across two hangars, including a hand-built Sopwith Camel, Australian-designed Avon Sabre, Dassault Mirage III, Gloster Meteor ‘Halestorm’ A77-851, de Havilland Vampire A79-1 and the retired F/A-18A ‘Worimi’ Hornet. Visitors can sit in Macchi and Mirage cockpits and use an F/A-18 virtual-reality simulator; the centre is beside the active Williamtown runway, where flying days may offer views of F-35 Lightning II, Hawk 127, E-7A Wedgetail, Pilatus PC-21 and nearby civilian aircraft. Fighter World lists opening hours of 10:00–16:00 every day except Christmas Day; admission charges apply. The two display hangars, café and outdoor areas are on one level, disabled parking is available at the main entrance, and accessible toilets have ramped access; the Observation Deck is accessible by stairs only.
