Roque de los Muchachos Observatory

Roque de los Muchachos Observatory is a major international research campus above La Palma’s cloud layer, hosting optical, infrared, solar, and gamma-ray telescopes operated by institutions across Europe and beyond. Public visits are currently available only when telescope operations and weather permit. Private visitors must reserve in advance through the Starlight Foundation and join a qualified guide; visits are small-group, daylight tours of selected facilities lasting about 90 minutes and meeting at the separately located Visitor Centre. Social, educational, and media visits follow separate procedures; IAC currently suspends educational visits December–March and resumes them from September. Check current reservation, road, weather, and access conditions before travel.
