Siding Spring Observatory Visitor Centre

Siding Spring Observatory Visitor Centre is the public daytime gateway to the Australian National University’s working optical and infrared research site near Coonabarabran, New South Wales. ANU’s current visitor guidance describes the Siding Spring Exploratory’s hands-on astronomy exhibition, café and gift shop, plus the Anglo-Australian Telescope’s free public viewing gallery and a lookout over Warrumbungle National Park. The observatory is about 28 km from Coonabarabran; it is not open at night and closes during severe fire danger or extreme weather. Check current visitor and activity guidance before travel. The on-site visitor operator currently lists opening hours of 08:30–16:00 daily. The café and Exploratory are closed on Tuesdays, while the Anglo-Australian Telescope viewing gallery remains open each day. Guided tours can be arranged with the visitor team on 0488 687 562. Contact the operator for current access before driving up; the mountain road is unsuitable for caravans.
