Spaceport America is the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport in southern New Mexico, owned and operated by the State of New Mexico. The FAA-licensed site supports horizontal and vertical launch and flight-test activity, with a 12,000-foot runway, vertical launch complexes and commercial aerospace tenants. It is an active secure test facility, not a general walk-in attraction: visiting the site requires prior authorization through the operator’s tour provider, and launches are not open to public viewing. Current operator guidance says online ticket buying is unavailable; inquire with Final Frontier Tours for availability. Guided Spaceport America Experience tours are limited and currently depart Fridays from Las Cruces at 09:00 and Saturdays from Truth or Consequences at 09:00 or 13:00, subject to cancellation or restriction for operations, safety or security, with a limit of 13 people. The separate free Geronimo Trail Visitor Center is at 523 North Broadway Street, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901. There are currently no gas, restaurant or service facilities on the county roads to the spaceport, and overnight stays are not allowed in the public viewing lot.
