Sullenberger Aviation Museum

Sullenberger Aviation Museum, formerly Carolinas Aviation Museum, is a Smithsonian Affiliate beside Charlotte Douglas International Airport that preserves Charlotte aviation history and supports aviation and aerospace education. Founded in 1992 and reopened in its current campus in 2024, its collection includes aircraft, artifacts and interactive exhibits, including the Airbus A320 that safely completed US Airways Flight 1549—the Miracle on the Hudson. The museum’s Aviation City and historic 1936–37 WPA/Douglas hangar connect Charlotte’s airport and airline history with aircraft such as the Piedmont DC-3, Stearman, F-84 Thunderjet, Bellanca 14-9 and Lockheed T-33. Education, immersive interpretation, tours and workforce-learning activities connect the collection to future aviation careers. The operator publishes accessibility features including complimentary wheelchairs and an accessible simulator; visit arrangements and exhibit access follow operator guidance.
