Sunspot Solar Observatory

Sunspot Solar Observatory in New Mexico’s Sacramento Mountains is a high-altitude solar-research and public-interpretation site centered on the Dunn Solar Telescope. Its historic visitor experience explained solar astronomy through exhibits, a scale model of the Solar System, walking interpretation and public observatory programs, with high-elevation travel constraints and an accessible visitor-center route. NMSU’s current notice says the observatory, visitor center, surrounding grounds and trails are closed to the public while liquid-mercury remediation and telescope work proceed; check the operator before travel.
