Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site

Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site is China’s low-latitude coastal spaceport on Hainan Island, whose first launch in June 2016 began a new-generation launch site designed for heavy-lift Long March 5, 7 and 8 missions. It supports space-station, lunar and deep-space programmes and continues active commercial and national launches. A January 2026 Hainan government update reports two all-weather, multi-directional launch pads and growing rocket-viewing tourism around the site. Public launch viewing uses designated rocket-viewing platforms and approved coastal observation areas around Wenchang; the launch site is a working spaceport, not a general walk-in museum, and areas, roads and viewing access can change for each mission.
