JAXA's Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), nicknamed DAICHI, was an Earth-observation mission launched on 2006-01-24. Its AVNIR-2, PRISM, and PALSAR instruments supported mapping, disaster response, land and forest monitoring, and environmental observation worldwide until operations were completed on 2011-05-12 after a power-generation anomaly.
