Anousheh Ansari flew to the International Space Station as a private spaceflight participant arranged through Space Adventures. She launched with the Expedition 14 crew aboard Soyuz TMA-9, conducted four European Space Agency biomedical and microbiology experiments during her stay, and returned with the Expedition 13 crew aboard Soyuz TMA-8. Ansari became the first female private spaceflight participant and the first Iranian-born person in space.
