Expedition 17 was a long-duration International Space Station increment commanded by Sergei Volkov with Oleg Kononenko as flight engineer and Soyuz commander. Garrett Reisman initially served as the NASA flight engineer before STS-124 exchanged him for Gregory Chamitoff. The crew supported installation and activation of the Kibo laboratory, received two Progress cargo vehicles and Soyuz TMA-13, and completed two resident EVAs. Volkov and Kononenko returned with Richard Garriott aboard Soyuz TMA-12 while Chamitoff transferred to Expedition 18.
