Expedition 17 was a 2008 International Space Station resident increment led by Russian commander Sergei Volkov. The increment officially began after Soyuz TMA-11 undocked on April 19, 2008, leaving Volkov, Oleg Kononenko, and NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman aboard. Gregory Chamitoff joined the station on STS-124 in June and replaced Reisman after the Soyuz seat-liner exchange. The crew supported station research, visiting-vehicle operations, Kibo assembly activity, and two Russian-segment EVAs by Volkov and Kononenko before Soyuz TMA-12 departed on October 24, 2008.
