Expedition 19 was the final three-person International Space Station increment before permanent six-person operations. Gennady Padalka commanded with Michael Barratt and Koichi Wakata as flight engineers. Padalka and Barratt arrived aboard Soyuz TMA-14, while Wakata transferred from Expedition 18 after arriving on STS-119. The crew supported station research and Progress M-02M logistics before Soyuz TMA-15 brought Roman Romanenko, Frank De Winne, and Robert Thirsk, beginning Expedition 20 and the six-person era.
