Expedition 22 was a 2009-2010 International Space Station resident increment commanded by NASA astronaut Jeffrey Williams. The increment began when the Soyuz TMA-15 crew departed on December 1, 2009, leaving Williams and Maksim Surayev to operate the station until Soyuz TMA-17 arrived with Oleg Kotov, Soichi Noguchi, and Timothy Creamer. The crew supported station research, logistics, robotics, the relocation of Soyuz TMA-16, and preparations around the new Poisk module. A Russian-segment EVA by Kotov and Surayev prepared Poisk for future dockings, while STS-130 brought Tranquility and Cupola to the station during the same increment. Expedition 22 ended when Williams and Surayev returned to Earth on Soyuz TMA-16 and Kotov later became Expedition 23 commander.
