Expedition 28 was a 2011 International Space Station resident increment commanded by Russian cosmonaut Andrei Borisenko. The expedition began when Soyuz TMA-20 departed on May 23, 2011, leaving Borisenko, Aleksandr Samokutyayev, and Ronald Garan aboard the station from the Soyuz TMA-21 crew. Soyuz TMA-02M arrived in June with Sergei Volkov, Satoshi Furukawa, and Michael Fossum, restoring the station to six-person operations. The increment included research, maintenance, cargo-vehicle work, and the final Space Shuttle visit to the ISS. STS-135, Atlantis's last flight, delivered supplies and the Raffaello multipurpose logistics module during the expedition, closing the Shuttle assembly and logistics era for the station. Expedition 28 ended when Borisenko, Samokutyayev, and Garan returned to Earth on Soyuz TMA-21, while Volkov, Furukawa, and Fossum remained aboard for Expedition 29.
