Expedition 39 was a 2014 International Space Station increment commanded by Koichi Wakata, the first Japanese astronaut to command the ISS. The crew supported station research, SpaceX CRS-3 cargo operations, the Veggie plant-growth facility, and an external repair EVA to replace a failed multiplexer-demultiplexer.
