Expedition 47 was a 2016 International Space Station increment led by NASA astronaut Tim Kopra after the end of the Kelly-Kornienko one-year mission. The crew expanded to six people when Soyuz TMA-20M brought Aleksey Ovchinin, Oleg Skripochka, and Jeff Williams to orbit, joining Kopra, Yuri Malenchenko, and Tim Peake. The increment supported research into bone and muscle loss, drug development in microgravity, exercise systems, combustion, and materials behavior. It also handled several visiting-vehicle operations, including Cygnus OA-6, SpaceX CRS-8 with the BEAM expandable module, Progress MS-02, and the departure of Soyuz TMA-19M.
