Expedition 49

Expedition 49 was a 2016 International Space Station increment commanded by Roscosmos cosmonaut Anatoli Ivanishin. It began after Soyuz TMA-20M departed with the Expedition 48 return crew, leaving Ivanishin, Takuya Onishi, and Kathleen Rubins aboard the station. The crew expanded to six when Soyuz MS-02 arrived with Sergey Ryzhikov, Andrei Borisenko, and Shane Kimbrough. During the increment, the crew supported human research, biology, combustion, fluid physics, Earth observation, and technology demonstrations, handled Progress and Cygnus visiting-vehicle operations, and continued cargo and robotics work around the Cygnus OA-5 mission. Expedition 49 concluded when Soyuz MS-01 undocked with Ivanishin, Onishi, and Rubins, handing station command to Kimbrough for Expedition 50.
