Expedition 52 was a 2017 International Space Station increment commanded by Roscosmos cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin. It began after Soyuz MS-03 departed with Oleg Novitsky and Thomas Pesquet, leaving Yurchikhin, Jack Fischer, and Peggy Whitson aboard the station. The crew expanded to six when Soyuz MS-05 arrived with Sergey Ryazansky, Randy Bresnik, and Paolo Nespoli. During the increment, the crew supported human research, biology, Earth observation, station maintenance, visiting-vehicle operations, and U.S. segment spacewalk preparations. The expedition closed when Soyuz MS-04 undocked with Yurchikhin, Fischer, and Whitson, handing station command to Bresnik for Expedition 53.
