Explorer 33 (AIMP-D)
Explorer 33 (AIMP-D) was the first NASA Anchored Interplanetary Monitoring Platform, launched to study magnetic fields, plasma, and energetic particles at lunar distances. Lunar-orbit insertion was not achieved because of excess injection velocity; the spacecraft instead entered a highly elliptical Earth orbit and achieved the mission scientific objectives.
