Galactic 01 was Virgin Galactic's first commercial suborbital spaceflight and first dedicated commercial research mission. VSS Unity flew from Spaceport America on June 29, 2023 with VSS Unity pilots Mike Masucci and Nicola Pecile, Virgin Galactic astronaut instructor Colin Bennett, Italian Air Force mission commander Walter Villadei, Italian Air Force physician Angelo Landolfi, and National Research Council of Italy engineer Pantaleone Carlucci. The mission carried 13 research payloads, including human-tended experiments and wearable sensors for biomedical, thermo-fluid, materials, and human-performance research during the transition from high-g to microgravity.
