The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Global Change Observation Mission 1st-Water (GCOM-W1), nicknamed SHIZUKU, is an active Earth-observation mission launched on 18 May 2012 to monitor the water cycle. Its Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) observes atmospheric water, precipitation, sea-surface temperature, and related geophysical quantities supporting weather and climate research.
