GÖKTÜRK-2 Earth Observation Mission

The GÖKTÜRK-2 mission supplies high-resolution satellite imagery for Turkish defence and intelligence users and for civilian environmental, urban-planning, agricultural, forestry and disaster-response applications. TÜBİTAK UZAY and Turkish Aerospace developed the spacecraft, which launched from Jiuquan on December 18, 2012. The mission uses panchromatic and RGB imaging from sun-synchronous orbit. An original five-year design life was surpassed: the institute documented twelve years of operation in December 2024 and continues to list the satellite in its operational portfolio. Experience from this mission and RASAT contributed to later domestic Earth-observation and communications spacecraft.
