- Success and ongoing extended mission. Hayabusa2 rendezvoused with asteroid Ryugu, collected surface and subsurface material during two touchdowns, and returned the sample capsule to Woomera in 2020. The spacecraft remained operational, completed a high-speed flyby of asteroid Torifune on July 5, 2026, and is proceeding toward a planned 2031 rendezvous with asteroid 1998 KY26.
