JAXA/ISAS's KYOKKO (EXOS-A) was an auroral-observation mission launched on 1978-02-04 aboard M-3H-2 from Uchinoura. It measured space-plasma density, temperature, and composition, studied auroral-electron energy, produced the world's first ultraviolet aurora images, and participated in the International Magnetospheric Study until operations ended on 1992-08-02.
