Landsat 9 is an active NASA-USGS land-observation mission launched on September 27, 2021. Its Operational Land Imager 2 and Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 acquire 11 spectral bands for monitoring land cover, vegetation, water resources and surface temperature. The satellite repeats its ground track every 16 days; its offset from Landsat 8 provides an eight-day combined repeat cycle. Reflective multispectral bands sample at 30 m, the panchromatic band at 15 m and thermal bands at 100 m. The mission extends the Landsat record while maintaining calibration continuity across generations.
