Metop-C

Metop-C is the third and final satellite of EUMETSAT’s first-generation Polar System, launched on 7 November 2018. Its near-polar observations support operational meteorology, climate monitoring, atmospheric chemistry, and ocean and ice applications. The payload includes IASI, GRAS, ASCAT, GOME-2, AVHRR/3, AMSU-A and MHS, providing complementary sounding, imaging and surface observations rather than a single uniform measurement product. Metop-C remains operational; some microwave channels have degraded, so product-specific instrument status and quality information matter when using its record. It belongs to the original Metop series, distinct from the subsequent Metop Second Generation spacecraft.
