Mir EO-24 was a late Shuttle-Mir resident expedition commanded by Anatoly Solovyev with Pavel Vinogradov as flight engineer. The Russian crew launched on Soyuz TM-26 on August 5, 1997 and docked with Mir two days later, beginning a repair-heavy increment after the Progress M-34 collision and the loss of pressure in Spektr. NASA resident Michael Foale transferred into the early part of the expedition from Mir EO-23, David Wolf arrived on STS-86, and Andrew Thomas arrived on STS-89 before continuing into Mir EO-25. The mission included internal and external repair work, power-cable recovery from Spektr, Soyuz redocking, Progress docking operations, life-support maintenance, and research that fed into International Space Station planning.
