Mir EO-27 was Mir's final continuously crewed resident expedition before the station was left unoccupied. Viktor Afanasyev and Jean-Pierre Haigneré arrived on Soyuz TM-29, joining Sergei Avdeyev, who had remained from EO-26. The crew maintained the station and performed three EVAs before all three returned on TM-29.
