MTG-I2 is the second Meteosat Third Generation imaging satellite and completes the first MTG satellite family. Launched on 27 August 2026 aboard Ariane 6 flight VA270 from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana, it is designed to provide rapid-scan imagery over Europe and northern Africa every 2.5 minutes for weather forecasting, nowcasting and climate monitoring. Following separation into geostationary transfer orbit on 27 August 2026, the spacecraft entered launch and early operations ahead of commissioning for operational service.
