NOAA-15

NOAA-15 introduced the fifth-generation POES series. Its AVHRR/3 imager and infrared and microwave sounders supported global weather and environmental observations, alongside space-weather monitoring, data relay and search-and-rescue services. Launched on May 13, 1998, it operated far beyond its design life. NOAA decommissioned the spacecraft on August 19, 2025, closing the final operating chapter of the POES constellation. The satellite remains in orbit in a non-operational state.
