NOAA-20

NOAA-20, launched as JPSS-1 on 18 November 2017, is the first flight unit of the Joint Polar Satellite System. Its near-polar afternoon orbit supplies atmospheric soundings, visible and infrared imagery, ozone observations and Earth-radiation measurements for operational weather forecasting and climate studies. Its payload comprises ATMS, CrIS, VIIRS, OMPS-nadir and CERES. NOAA-20 became the secondary afternoon satellite when NOAA-21 assumed the primary role on 20 March 2024. Its observations complement other platforms; instrument-specific products and quality information should be retained when combining records.
