RLV-TD HEX-01 hypersonic flight experiment

ISRO’s 23 May 2016 Hypersonic Flight Experiment used an HS9 booster to accelerate a winged RLV-TD demonstrator before separation and guided atmospheric reentry. The experiment tested hypersonic aerothermodynamics, autonomous navigation and guidance, integrated flight management and thermal protection. The landing target was over the Bay of Bengal; precise runway landing was outside the HEX objectives.
