San Marco 1
San Marco 1 was Italy's first satellite, built by the Centro Ricerche Aerospaziali of the University of Rome in the NASA–Italian cooperative San Marco project. Launched by an exclusively Italian team from NASA's Wallops Island base, it qualified the Italian satellite design and launch operations while carrying experiments to measure upper-atmosphere density and ionospheric conditions.
