Soyuz 30 was the second Interkosmos crewed mission and Poland's first human spaceflight. Pyotr Klimuk and Miroslaw Hermaszewski launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on June 27, 1978, docked with Salyut 6 on June 28, and landed northeast of Arkalyk on July 5 after about 190 hours in space. After entering Salyut 6, the Soyuz 30 crew worked alongside the resident crew while keeping their short visit from disrupting the long-duration expedition. Hermaszewski supported Polish and Soviet experiments in materials science, medicine, taste and cardiovascular studies, Earth photography, and auroral observation. The mission returned experiment samples and data to Earth, made Hermaszewski the first Polish person in space, and completed Klimuk's third and final spaceflight.
