Soyuz MS-01 was the first crewed flight of the upgraded Soyuz MS spacecraft and an ISS crew transport mission for Expeditions 48 and 49. It launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on July 7, 2016, carrying Roscosmos commander Anatoli Ivanishin, JAXA flight engineer Takuya Onishi, and NASA flight engineer Kate Rubins. The crew used a two-day rendezvous profile to check upgraded spacecraft systems before docking with the International Space Station on July 9. Ivanishin, Onishi, and Rubins worked aboard the station through the Expedition 48/49 period and returned to Kazakhstan aboard the same spacecraft on October 30, 2016 after about 115 days in space.
