Soyuz MS-05 launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on July 28, 2017 UTC with Roscosmos commander Sergey Ryazansky, NASA astronaut Randolph Bresnik, and ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli. The spacecraft docked with the International Space Station later the same day after a short rendezvous, adding the crew to Expedition 52 and later Expedition 53. Ryazansky, Bresnik, and Nespoli returned aboard the same Soyuz on December 14, 2017, landing in Kazakhstan after 138 days, 16 hours, and 56 minutes.
