Soyuz MS-10 was intended to carry Roscosmos commander Aleksey Ovchinin and NASA flight engineer Nick Hague from Baikonur Site 1/5 to the International Space Station for Expedition 57. About 122 seconds after liftoff on October 11, 2018, abnormal separation of a Soyuz-FG side booster damaged the core stage and triggered the escape system. The descent module reached a suborbital altitude of about 90 km, performed a high-g ballistic descent, and landed near Zhezkazgan after a flight of about 19 minutes. Both crewmembers were recovered in good condition.
