Soyuz T-7 was an August 1982 visiting mission to Salyut 7 and the first spaceflight by a woman in nearly two decades. Leonid Popov, Aleksandr Serebrov, and Svetlana Savitskaya launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on August 19, 1982 UTC, docked with Salyut 7 the next day, and worked with the station's first resident crew, Anatoly Berezovoy and Valentin Lebedev. The visiting crew delivered experiments, mail, and supplies, conducted joint scientific and technical work, and supported the station's early operations. During the stay the crews exchanged Soyuz seat liners, allowing Popov, Serebrov, and Savitskaya to return on the older Soyuz T-5 while leaving the newer Soyuz T-7 spacecraft as the resident crew's return vehicle. The mission made Savitskaya the second woman to fly in space and the first woman to visit an orbital space station. It also gave Serebrov his first spaceflight and Popov his third and final mission.
