Soyuz TM-28 launched Gennady Padalka, Sergei Avdeyev, and Yuri Baturin to Mir. Baturin returned on Soyuz TM-27 after the handover; Avdeyev continued aboard Mir into EO-27; and TM-28 returned Padalka with Slovak research cosmonaut Ivan Bella, who had arrived on Soyuz TM-29.
