Soyuz TM-4 launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on December 21, 1987 with Vladimir Titov, Musa Manarov, and Anatoli Levchenko. After docking with Mir on December 23, Levchenko completed a short research and test-pilot visit before returning on Soyuz TM-3 with the outgoing crew, while Titov and Manarov remained aboard Mir as the station's third resident expedition.
