Soyuz TM-6 was a Soviet Soyuz TM mission to Mir and the Afghan Intercosmos visit known as Mir EP-3. Vladimir Lyakhov commanded the flight, launching from Baikonur Site 1/5 on August 29, 1988 with research doctor Valeri Polyakov and Afghan research cosmonaut Abdul Ahad Momand. The spacecraft docked with Mir on August 31, where the visiting crew worked with the resident expedition on Earth observation, materials-science, medical, and biological research. Polyakov stayed aboard Mir to monitor the resident crew during the final months of its long-duration flight, while Lyakhov and Momand left Soyuz TM-6 at the station and returned to Earth on Soyuz TM-5 on September 7 after a delayed deorbit sequence.
