Soyuz TMA-12 launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on April 8, 2008 with Sergei Volkov, Oleg Kononenko, and South Korean spaceflight participant Yi So-yeon. The spacecraft docked with the International Space Station two days later. Yi completed a short Korean Astronaut Program visit and returned on Soyuz TMA-11 on April 19, while Volkov and Kononenko stayed aboard as the core Expedition 17 crew. Soyuz TMA-12 remained at the ISS until October 24, 2008, when Volkov, Kononenko, and visiting spaceflight participant Richard Garriott landed in Kazakhstan.
