Soyuz TMA-12M launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on March 25, 2014 UTC and docked with the International Space Station's Poisk module on March 27 after a planned fast-rendezvous profile reverted to a two-day approach. The spacecraft carried Roscosmos commander Aleksandr Skvortsov, Roscosmos flight engineer Oleg Artemyev, and NASA flight engineer Steven Swanson to the station for Expeditions 39 and 40. Swanson later commanded Expedition 40 after the Soyuz TMA-11M crew departed, while Skvortsov and Artemyev continued as station flight engineers. The crew supported station research, visiting-vehicle operations, maintenance, and expedition handover work before returning aboard Soyuz TMA-12M on September 11, 2014, landing near Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan.
