Soyuz TMA-13 launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on October 12, 2008 with Roscosmos commander Yury Lonchakov, NASA astronaut Michael Fincke, and American spaceflight participant Richard Garriott. The spacecraft docked with the International Space Station on October 14, beginning Lonchakov and Fincke's Expedition 18 stay while Garriott carried out a short-duration private astronaut mission arranged through Space Adventures. Garriott returned to Earth on Soyuz TMA-12 on October 24, 2008, while Soyuz TMA-13 remained docked as the station return craft and landed on April 8, 2009 with Lonchakov, Fincke, and Charles Simonyi.
