Soyuz TMA-17 launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on December 20, 2009 UTC and docked with the International Space Station on December 22. The spacecraft carried Roscosmos commander Oleg Kotov, JAXA flight engineer Soichi Noguchi, and NASA flight engineer Timothy Creamer to the station for Expeditions 22 and 23. During the mission, the crew supported station research, systems work, visiting-vehicle operations, the Tranquility and Cupola assembly period, and expedition handover activities, with Kotov later commanding Expedition 23. Soyuz TMA-17 undocked on June 2, 2010 UTC and landed southeast of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, returning the same three crew members after about 163 days in space.
