Soyuz TMA-9 was a Roscosmos crew transport mission to the International Space Station. It launched from Baikonur Site 1/5 on September 18, 2006, carrying commander Mikhail Tyurin, NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria, and private spaceflight participant Anousheh Ansari. The spacecraft docked with the station on September 20 and delivered Tyurin and Lopez-Alegria for Expedition 14, while Ansari made a short-duration ISS visit arranged through Space Adventures and supported ESA biomedical experiments. Ansari returned to Earth on Soyuz TMA-8 with the Expedition 13 crew on September 29, 2006. Soyuz TMA-9 remained docked as the Expedition 14 return vehicle and landed on April 21, 2007, with Tyurin, Lopez-Alegria, and spaceflight participant Charles Simonyi.
