Its principal communications experiment evaluated unconventional techniques for separating adjacent, overlapping co-channel transmissions received at low signal levels.
Launch Site
Outcome
STEP-2 reached orbit and was available for its communications experiments, but the Pegasus/HAPS flight placed it in a lower orbit than intended. The spacecraft therefore provided a usable technology demonstration despite the launch vehicle's incomplete orbital-injection performance.
