STS-104 was Space Shuttle Atlantis' International Space Station Assembly Flight 7A. The five-person crew delivered the Quest Joint Airlock, attached it to the Unity node, and outfitted it with high-pressure gas tanks and system connections so the station could support regular U.S. EVA operations. Michael Gernhardt and James Reilly conducted three spacewalks while Janet Kavandi helped transfer equipment and spacesuits into the new airlock. The Shuttle and Expedition 2 crews also activated Quest and rehearsed its use before the first spacewalk from the airlock. Atlantis launched from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39B on July 12, 2001 and landed at Kennedy's Shuttle Landing Facility on July 24, 2001.
