STS-105 was a Space Shuttle Discovery mission to the International Space Station in August 2001. The flight delivered the Expedition 3 crew of Frank Culbertson, Vladimir Dezhurov, and Mikhail Tyurin to the station and returned the Expedition 2 crew of Yury Usachov, James Voss, and Susan Helms to Earth. The Shuttle crew, led by Scott Horowitz with Frederick Sturckow as pilot, used the Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module to transfer supplies, equipment, and experiment hardware between Discovery and the ISS. Mission specialists Daniel Barry and Patrick Forrester performed two EVAs to install external equipment and prepare the station for later assembly and logistics operations. STS-105 also continued the early Shuttle rotation pattern that made the ISS a continuously crewed laboratory while assembly was still underway. Discovery landed at Kennedy Space Center on August 22, 2001 after nearly twelve days in orbit.
