STS-107
STS-107 was a dedicated Space Shuttle Columbia science mission launched from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A on January 16, 2003. The seven-member crew operated Spacehab and other research payloads in alternating shifts, supporting roughly 80 experiments in microgravity, life sciences, materials, Earth observation, and related fields. Columbia broke apart during atmospheric reentry on February 1, 2003 after damage from launch debris compromised the orbiter's left wing; all seven crew members died before the scheduled landing at Kennedy Space Center.
