STS-114

STS-114 was Space Shuttle Discovery's July-August 2005 Return to Flight mission after the Columbia accident. Commanded by Eileen Collins with James Kelly as pilot, the seven-person crew docked with the International Space Station and used the flight to test new safety, inspection, and repair procedures for the shuttle program. The mission introduced operational techniques such as the Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver and work with the Orbiter Boom Sensor System, while also carrying logistics to the station aboard the Raffaello Multi-Purpose Logistics Module. Stephen Robinson and Soichi Noguchi completed three EVAs that supported station maintenance, shuttle inspection and repair demonstrations, and external hardware work. Discovery launched from LC-39B on July 26, 2005, and landed at Edwards Air Force Base on August 9 after 13 days, 21 hours, 32 minutes, and 48 seconds in space.
